Baby clothes Baby shower cake

This cake was made for a Baby shower on a very short notice. I did not have enough time to make the baby clothes far ahead of time and let it dry. All the small clothes & accessories were made out of fondant & allowed to dry for about 2 hours.

The cake was then decorated using all those tiny clothes on the sides of the cake. A teddy bear design dress set was made for the topper. The cake design is a repeat design of one of my previous baby shower cake except for the topper.

Batman cake

This cake was made for a 6 year old boy, who is much interested in Batman. The theme of the cake describes Batman being in the city with tall buildings and an interesting skyline.

The greatest challenge was to make all the buildings look different and then put together in a neat skyline looking way . All buildings are edible made of sugar fondant.

The Batman candle holder with the candle completes the whole theme of the cake perfectly.

Fun with Dora

This cake was made for a 3 year old birthday girl who is very much interested in Dora. Since Dora is always found exploring in the woods, I decided to go with a theme similar to that.

The design represents a scene in the woods, where all the main characters are present. To add some fun I have also included couple of stars everywhere.

Toy figurines of Dora, Boots, Swiper & Backpack are used. All the elements in the scenic background are edible.

3D Cakes

I was just flipping the old pictures of my cakes & came across these. Just thought lets post it in the blog :-)

Couple years back when I was exploring my new hobby of cake decorating, I got into a spree of making 3D cakes. And I started with fruits as my inspirations. These cakes were a good experience and I was extremely happy with the outcome.

All these cakes are carved to shapes, covered with fondant.

Pooh bear cakes

Pooh bear seems to be the most impressive character for kids, especially with 1 year olds.

This cake was made for a one year old birthday boy. The design is a scene with Pooh bear & his friends in a field with trees and flowers. Pooh bear & friends are just cake toppers. Trees & flowers are edible.
This cake was made for a one year old birthday girl. I call such a design as a "Storybook cake", because the whole design flows into the tiers giving a feeling of reading a story book.

The design represents Pooh bear's tree house by a riverside. There is a big bee hive on the tree with cute honeybees flying. Pooh bear is a birthday candle. Piglet & Tigger are just cake toppers. The trees, flowers, name post & honeybees are all edible.A quick look into back view of the cake....

Memoirs of a cake

I participated in the Wilton's 80th Anniversary "Past & Present" cake decorating contest which was held on 14th June at Darien, IL.

My entry was named "Memoirs of a cake" which represented how the cake decorating styles evolved through time. The lower half of the cake represented the "Past" with the lower most tier having ruffles, trellis, swags as the decorations whereas the second lower tier with ornate shapes in cornelli lace and bordered with the Lambeth style. The upper half of the cake represented the "Present" with the non-traditional funky styles of decorations topping off with a gumpaste floral spray.

The celebrity judges for the contest were Colette Peters, Mark Seaman, Debbie Friedman, Laura Ragano. This entry did not win any place except the Award of participation. But, it was a wonderful experience to see others designs.

These were the comments from the judges for my entry.

Judge 1 : Good use of stages of theme
Judge 2: Very nice use of colors & patterns
Judge3: Very creative use of theme
Judge4: The roses are lovely. The detail of the lattice is done very well. The overall style of the cake is very nice and flowed very well.
Judge 5: Nice expression of old & new techniques. Floral spray is beautiful.

Animals cake

This cake was made for the birthday of a 2 year old girl who is fond of different animals. I was specially requested to include dog, cat, squirrel, fishes & birds in the design. I added additional frog & bunny enhance the theme. The cake was designed to look like a walk into woods with lots of trees, stones, fences & a bridge by the water.
View of the back of the cake.
A closeup of the top tier
Closeup of the bottom tier which has the squirrel eating nuts beneath the tree. Fishes jumping in the water with water splashes. An eagerly awaiting stork & a frog by the water stream.

All the animals were hand molded out of fondant. This was a little unusual kind of theme. I truly enjoyed designing this cake & was pleased with the outcome.
